The Secret Menu of The Senate Budget Bill

This Thursday, Senate will be gathering to vote on the controversial Senate budget bill. At 600 pages this bill is no lightweight. The bill is a mixed package of benefits and cuts, and rapid napkin scrawls. At first glance, it appears to have good intentions. But upon closer inspection, the bill holds holes that would make Swiss cheese envious.

Before I get into bad, its worth noting some benefits of the bill. The Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) has been extended for four years, on top of its previous extension which means this program has a safe future for the next decade. Renewable energy resources will be receiving several tax breaks, encouraging the environmentally conscious. Hurricane survivors will receive about $90 billion in disaster relief. The Independent Payment Advisory Board is on the chopping block due to lack of use. And finally, miners will receive a tax credit for miner safety.

Here's where things get rather promiscuous. With the bill, spending on military and domestic spending will increase by about $300 billion, removing the caps previously set in place. The Affordable Care Act will receive a slashed Ad budget for ACA enrollment reminders by 90%, funding for ACA enrollment assistance by 40% and enrollment periods will be cut in half. And while this bill may be supportive of spending, it's not avid of what's between your legs. Abstinence-only sex ed will be receiving more funding, which will no doubt delight the producers of Teen Mom.

Part of why this bill is so controversial is due to the lack of options it leaves America's future generation. By removing spending caps, the government creates a much larger debt for taxpayers to come. Additionally, the bill includes no support for the Dreamers who will be facing a crisis once the DACA ends on March 6th. To read more about this budget bill, please read here.
